Background

The project involved a group of young Italian women of Bengali origin. It was defined together with these young ambassadors, who showed a strong interest in art and writing, seen both as self-determination and empowerment and as a tool for awareness and change.
An association experienced in screen printing was involved, with which two different works were produced: one more intimate about feeling at home, and one more political about women’s rights and combating all forms of violence.

What Happened

“We must always listen but cannot respond.
Desire to have a voice.
Women’s work is being in the kitchen.
Desire to work, to create, to earn.
Period is a taboo, period is a disease.
Desire to live my body
Without it being judged.
Good girls come home before sunset.
Desire to see the moon and stars.”

Through screen print work, young girls Shining L.E.A.D.E.R.s put their desires on paper in response to prejudice and social control by families and communities. Inside is a manifesto claiming their rights and freedom to choose. The manifesto will be disseminated during initiatives and posted in the neighborhood.
